Sheet Metal Apprentice at Local Union No. 25

Sheet Metal Workers are highly skilled craft persons, who sketch, design, fabricate and install all systems and components, starting with flat sheets of metal. We install, test, balance and maintain all HVAC systems and items we fabricate. Our diversified trade includes welding and soldering, all types of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, clean rooms, architectural metal work such as siding and decking, metal roofs, awnings, canopies, coping, flashing and skylights, bathroom partitions, lockers, shelving, stainless steel kitchen equipment, hoods, counters, cabinets, walk in refrigerators and industrial sheet metal work such as tanks, vessels, hoppers and collectors.

Requirements for a Local 25 Sheet Metal Apprentice

All applicants are required to complete our online applications through our Application System and submit all required documentation.
All Applicants must be at least seventeen (17) years of age and must have a valid driver’s license with a photo on it and upload a copy. You must have your own means of transportation to get to work on time every day. Our work is Monday through Friday, usually starting at 6:30 or 7:00 AM to 3:00 or 3:30 PM (depending on the jobsite).
Must be eligible to work in the U.S.A legally. If you have a green card or work permit you must upload a copy to the Documents upload section of the application.
Must submit a copy of your Social Security Card to the Documents upload section of the application.
Must submit High School transcripts, High School Diploma, or GED to the Documents upload section of the application.
Must take an Applicant Assessment (Part 1- Journey Assessment, Part 2 - Math, Part 3 - Mechanical Reasoning/ Space Relations.)
Must be able to obtain SWAC and TWIC Cards (after becoming an apprentice). For more information on these you can visit, www.secureworker.com and https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic. (All applications will be done once you are accepted into the Apprenticeship Program. Do not fill anything out prior to being accepting to Local 25. You are not required to pay any of the fees associated with the SWAC and TWIC Cards. Local 25 will pay those fees once you are accepted to the Apprenticeship Program.).
Must be able to perform all required functions of the Sheet Metal Industry. Being a Union construction worker is very physically demanding, so you must be able to meet the physical requirements and to be on your feet for 8 hours every day, be able to lift at least 40 lbs. on your own, be able to climb at least an 8-foot ladder, and work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
Must have transportation to get to work in any of the eight counties in Local 25's jurisdiction; Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex and Union Counties.
Must be available to work overtime, evenings, and weekends if required
Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) specifically hard hat, safety gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, work boots, neon colored clothing, but not limited to these items
Must attend an in-person 20-30 minute interview.
Must Pass a Drug Screening

Successful applicants will be required to appear for orientation, drug testing, SWAC/TWIC Card Application and possibly a physical examination.

This application does not have the ability to be modified once completed so please be sure you have your documentation to upload when you start the Application.

If you have a minimum of 2+ years industry/trade work experience within the last five (5) years please submit (at least two years of) W-2 forms, 1099, or Pay Stubs (with Year to date) from past & present employers to the Documents upload section of the application. If you have more than one (1) employer for each year, please scan all W-2s for the year in one file and upload it.

If you have a minimum of 2+ years industry/trade training experience within the last five (5) years please submit (at least two years of) Transcripts from High School, Trade School, Apprenticeship Program, College, or University within the last 5 Yrs. to the Documents upload section of the application. If you have more than one (1) School for each year, please scan all transcripts for the year in one file and upload it.

Once we receive your completed application, including the required documents, you will receive email notification for the next step in the process. If we do not receive the required documentation, you will be dropped from the list of qualified applicants. (Background Checks may be conducted).

Apprenticeship Jobsite/Shop Safety Requirements

The Following questions are important to consider when applying to the Local 25 Apprenticeship Training Program. The questions below are all requirements of a Local 25 Apprentice. Please answer them honestly.
